Joseph A. Mariglio, M.D., FCCP

Joseph A. Mariglio MD FCCP arrived in Reading in 1983 and was a founding physician in Berks Schuylkill Respiratory Specialists LTD.  He received his BS from Creighton University, graduating cum laude with a double major in Biology and Psychology.  He received his Medical Doctor degree from Creighton University Medical School in Omaha, Nebraska in 1978 and went on to complete an Internal Medicine Residency at Cornell-North Shore University Hospital from 1978-1981. 

He served as Assistant Chief Medical Resident at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Institute in 1980.  He completed his Pulmonary Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital from 1981-1983.  Dr. Mariglio is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary, and Critical Care.  He is a member of the active staff at Penn State Hershey St Joseph Medical Center, The Reading Hospital and Medical Center and serves on the staff of HealthSouth Reading Rehabilitation Hospital and The Reading Hospital Rehabilitation Center. 

He is a past president of the Medical Staff at Penn State Hershey St Joseph Medical Center; he also serves as Medical Director of Pulmonary and Critical Care, Respiratory Care and Pulmonary Rehabilitation there.  He is actively involved in the training of Respiratory Care students and helped found as well as serves as Medical Director of Respiratory Care at Reading Area Community College.  He is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Clinical Educator Track at Jefferson.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, and a member of the American Thoracic Society and Society of Critical Care Medicine.

 


 

Ronald C. Krol, M.D., FCCP

Dr. Krol received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry Summa Cum Laude from Albright College, Reading, PA. His medical degree was conferred by the College of Medicine of the Pennsylvania State University in Hershey, PA. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, NH, where he also served as Chief Medical resident. Dr. Krol received the medical faculty award as Intern of the Year and Resident of the Year. He completed his pulmonary medicine training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Krol is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with subspecialty certification in pulmonary and critical care, and recertified in 1999. Dr. Krol is an active member of the medical staff at St. Joseph Medical Center and The Reading Hospital and Medical Center, and a consultant at the HealthSouth Reading Rehabilitation Hospital in Reading, PA.

Dr. Krol is a past president of the medical staff at St. Joseph Medical Center and is currently the medical director of the Intensive Care Unit. He is also an Adjunct Faculty physician at Thomas Jefferson University College of Medicine. Dr. Krol has received numerous teaching awards at both the Reading Medical Center and Penn State St. Joseph Medical Center.

Dr. Krol is a member of the American Thoracic Society and a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. He is a member of the Berks County Medical Society and the Pennsylvania Medical Society.   He is also currently a member of the Alumni Society of the College of Medicine at Penn State Hershey.

 


 

Paul Stelmach, M.D., FCCP

Dr. Stelmach was born in Reading and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, where he graduated magna cum laude. His medical degree is from the Pennsylvania State University School of Medicine in Hershey, PA. He completed his internal medicine training at the Pennsylvania State University Hospital in Hershey, PA and at the University of Texas in Dallas, TX. He also completed his pulmonary and critical care training at the University of Texas at Dallas. Dr. Stelmach is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, pulmonary and critical care medicine. Dr. Stelmach is an active member of the medical staff at Penn State Health St. Joseph and the Reading Health System, as well as, the HealthSouth Reading Rehabilitation Hospital in Reading, PA.

Dr. Stelmach is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and a member of the Society of Critical Medicine. He has special interests in Bronchoscopy and ECMO. He is also on the faculty of Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University as Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine.
Outside the office he is busy on his farm raising alpaca, pigs, chickens and goats. He is also an avid outdoors enthusiast.

 


 

Rocco Santarelli, D.O., FCCP


Dr. Santarelli received his undergraduate degree from Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA. His medical degree is from the New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, ME. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Abington Memorial Hospital, serving as Assistant Chief Medical Resident. He completed his Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at Cooper Hospital/University Medical Center. He was Assistant Professor of Medicine at UMDNJ/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School for six years and Medical Director of Pulmonary Diagnostic Procedures. He was subsequently Director of Pulmonary Services at HealthSouth Nittany Valley Rehabilitation Hospital in State College, PA. Dr. Santarelli is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, pulmonary, and critical care medicine.

Dr. Santarelli is an active member of the medical staff at St. Joseph Medical Center and The Reading Hospital and Medical Center, as well as, the HealthSouth Reading Rehabilitation Hospital in Reading, PA. Dr. Santarelli is a member of the American Thoracic Society and the Society of Critical Care Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. Dr. Santarelli is also a member of the Berks Medical Society and the Pennsylvania Medical Society.

 


 

John A. Shapiro, M.D.

Dr. Shapiro received his undergraduate degree from The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, were he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society. His Medical Degree is from The University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine (1979). He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and his Fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (1979 -1984). He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with subspecialty certification in pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine. Dr. Shapiro was recertified in Critical Care Medicine in 2000 and 2010. Dr. Shapiro is an active staff member of the Medical Staff at The Reading Hospital and Medical Center and The St. Joseph’s Medical Center. At the Reading Hospital, he is Chief, Section of Pulmonary Medicine and Medical Director of the Critical Care Unit. He is also on the Consulting Staff at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Reading, PA.

Dr. Shapiro is a Member of the American Thoracic Society, The Berks County Medical Society, Pennsylvania Medical Society and the American Medical Association.

 


 

Sajjad H. Shah, M.D., FCCP

Dr. Shah received his undergraduate degree from The University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA. His Medical Degree is from St. George’s University. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at the Medical College of Pennsylvania. He completed his Pulmonary Medicine/Critical Care Medicine and Sleep Medicine Fellowship at Cooper Hospital/University Medical Center. Dr. Shah is board certified by The American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine .

Dr. Shah is an active member of the Medical Staff at The Reading Hospital and Medical Center and The St. Joseph’s Medical Center, and a Consultant at The HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital, Reading, PA.

Dr. Shah is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. He is also a member of The Pennsylvania Medical Society, The Berks County Medical Society and The American Medical Association.

 


 

James N. Kim, M.D., FCCP

Dr. Kim received his undergraduate degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York, a Master of Science degree from the Johns Hopkins University in Maryland, and his medical degree from State University of New York at Stony Brook, graduating with Distinction in Research.  He completed his internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.  He then trained in Pulmonary Critical Care subspecialty at the University of California at San Francisco, where he also completed a research fellowship at the Cardiovascular Research Institute and the Lung Biology Center.  Dr. Kim is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine.

Dr. Kim is an active member of the medical staff at the Reading Health System and Penn State Health-Saint Joseph's Medical Center.  He serves as a site director for the Jefferson University-Reading Pulmonary Critical Care fellowship program, an education coordinator for the Department of Medicine residents' ICU and pulmonary subspecialty rotations, and an active participant in the Directors' Council for the McGlinn Cancer Institute at the Reading Health System.  He is also a consultant at the HealthSouth and the Reading Health Rehabilitation Hospitals.

Dr. Kim has been a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, Society of Critical Care Medicine, American Academy of Sleep Medicine, American Thoracic Society, and Pennsylvania Medical Society in the past.

 


 

Dosik Kim, M.D., FCCP

Born in Seoul, Korea, Dr. Kim received his undergraduate degree from Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea and Lafayette College, Easton, PA. Dr. Kim received his medical education at Yonsei University, served an internship at ASAN Medical Center in Seoul, Korea, Internal Medicine residency program at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, IN, completed his Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship with Sleep Training at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI.

Dr. Kim has been a recipient of numerous honors and awards during his education including Resident Research Award, St. Vincent Hospital and placed in the 2000 ACP-ASIM Indiana Scientific Assembly Abstract Competition. Dr. Kim is also a member of the American Thoracic Society, and the American College of Chest Physicians. He is also a member of the Berks County Medical Society, Pennsylvania Medical Society, and the American Medical Association. Dr. Kim is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, and critical care medicine.

Dr. Kim is an active member of the medical staff at St. Joseph's Medical Center and the Reading Hospital and Medical Center. He is also a consultant at the HealthSouth Reading Rehabilitation Hospital in Reading, PA.

Dr. Kim is a member of the American Thoracic Society and the Society of Critical Care Medicine and has several clinical and basic science research publications in peer-reviewed journals.

 


 

Philip J. Wexler, M.D.

Dr. Wexler received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA and his medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, NY. He completed his internship and residency at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA where he received the Kowlessar Award for Excellence in Internal Medicine.

He completed his subspecialty training in Pulmonary Diseases, Critical Care Medicine, Allergy and Immunology at the Boston University Medical Center, Boston, MA. He performed clinical-translational research in asthma and allergic rhinitis, presented abstracts at several different national society meetings and wrote a chapter on the diagnosis and management of chronic rhinosinusitis while a fellow at Boston University.
Dr. Wexler’s clinical interests include the diagnosis and treatment of asthma, allergic diseases including rhinitis, sinusitis, hives, angioedema, drug, food and stinging insect allergy, anaphylaxis, environmental allergen control and COPD. He is specialty trained to perform skin testing and allergen desensitization to control allergic asthma, allergic nasal disease.

Dr. Wexler is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases and Critical Care Medicine and is also certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. He is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Thoracic Society, and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology.

Dr. Wexler is an active member of the medical staff at St. Joseph's Medical Center and the Reading Hospital and Medical Center. He is also a consultant at the HealthSouth Reading Rehabilitation Hospital in Reading, PA.

He is the proud father of four fantastic children and the lucky husband of his beautiful wife, Teresa.


 

Mumtaz Zaman, M.D., FCCP

Dr. Mumtaz Zaman is a graduate of Dow Medical College in Pakistan. He completed residency training in Internal Medicine from Columbus-Cabrini Medical Center, an affiliate of Northwestern University Medical Center in Chicago and subsequently completed subspecialty training in Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine from Cook County Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Zaman comes to us from Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine where he was Associate Professor of Medicine with tenure in the division of Pulmonary Medicine. His areas of interest include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and other smoking related lung disorders, lung cancer, pulmonary physiology and evaluation of shortness of breath.

Dr. Zaman was involved in academic medicine for over seven years and was recognized with the “Academy of Medical Educators Award” by Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine for his academic achievements and participation in medical research. Dr. Zaman’s research has been published in peer-reviewed journals. He has presented several abstracts and posters in national meetings and has contributed to medical research. He is a Fellow of American College of Chest Physicians and member of American Thoracic Society.

Dr. Zaman is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. He is committed to providing care of the highest quality to patients in our community. He has also been recognized with a “Caring Spirit All Star Award” by Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV for level of care and compassion.

Dr. Zaman is an active member of the medical staff at St. Joseph’s Medical Center and the Reading Hospital and Medical Center. He is also a consultant at the HealthSouth Reading Rehabilitation Hospital in Reading, PA.

 


 

Haitham Kanneh, M.D.

Dr. Kanneh received his medical degree a form the University of Damascus, Syria. He completed his residency training in Internal Medicine and fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital / Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.

Dr. Kanneh is a member of the American Thoracic Society, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journal, and he has presented several abstracts and posters in national meetings.

Dr. Kanneh is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine. He is committed to providing care of the highest quality to patients in our community. Roopika Reddy, M.D.

Dr. Reddy is board certified in Pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine. She graduated from a premium medical school in India and has 10 years of experience. Dr. Reddy completed her residency training in Internal Medicine at Forest Hills hospital affiliated to North shore Long Island Jewish health system in New York. During her residency training she was honored best resident award for her dedication and compassion towards patient care. She subsequently completed subspecialty training in pulmonary critical care medicine at University hospital of Utah and sleep medicine at State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Reddy comes to us after serving an underserved town of Seaford in Delaware.

Dr. Reddy has special interests in the treatments of pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung disease, lung cancer and sleep apnea. Among other treatments and procedures she performs Endobronchial Ultrasound, navigational bronchoscopy and other advanced pleural procedures. She is currently a fellow of American college of chest physicians and a member of American thoracic society.

 


 

David Young, D.O.

David Young grew up in the South Jersey area and obtained his Bachelor of Science from the University of Delaware. He then went on to graduate from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2010 as a member of the Osteopathic Honor Society. Dr Young completed his residency in Internal Medicine in 2013 at Pennsylvania Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Health System where he was voted "Resident of the Year". He recently completed his fellowship in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine at Mount Sinai - St Luke's and West Hospital Centers in New York City where he was awarded the "Fellow of the Year".

Dr Young is a member of the American Thoracic Society and American Collegeof Chest Physicians. His work during fellowship has been presented in a number of national meetings.

Dr. Young is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. His interests are in smoking related lung disease, COPD, interstitial lung disease and lung cancer screening and diagnosis. Dr Young is trained to perform endobronchial ultrasound as well as navigational bronchoscopy.

 


 

Daron Kahn, M.D.

Dr. Kahn received his Bachelor of Science degree from Brown University with honors in Biology. He worked at the DuPont Chemical Company in Wilmington, DE in the Biobased Materials Department for a year before starting medical school at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. He completed his internship and residency at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Kahn completed his subspecialty training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine followed by an extra year in Sleep Medicine at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. During that time he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society in recognition of exemplary service, integrity, clinical excellence and compassion.

Dr. Kahn is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine and Sleep Medicine. He is a member of the American Thoracic Society, the American College of Chest Physicians, the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. He has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented several abstracts and posters at national and international meetings.

Dr. Kahn has special interests in the treatment of complex sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia, excessive daytime tiredness, narcolepsy, and restless leg syndrome. He is an active member of the medical staff at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center and the St. Joseph’s Medical Center. He is also a consultant at the HealthSouth Reading Rehabilitation Hospital.

 


 

Mark J. Titi, M.D.

Dr. Mark Titi grew up in the Washington D.C. suburbs and received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry at the University of Maryland in Baltimore County.  He was inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Societies and received the Distinguished Scholarship in Chemistry award at graduation.  Before starting medical school he spent 2 years at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology in basic science research.

Dr. Titi attended the University of Maryland Medical School in Baltimore.  He completed his Internal Medicine residency at the York Hospital and then went on to complete his fellowship in Allergy and Clinical Immunology within the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.  During his residency and fellowship he pursued extra training in pediatrics and pediatric allergy.  He is certified and has been recertified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology and is a member of the American Academy and American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.

Prior to joining the Berkshire Allergy and Asthma Center in May of 2017 Dr. Titi exclusively practiced the subspecialty of allergy in Lancaster County treating adult and pediatric patients.  He has over 20 years of experience treating adults and children with a multitude of allergy related issues.

On a personal note he is married and has 2 well behaved children and 3 misbehaving dogs.  He enjoys reading, hiking, skiing, golf and a little comedy now and then.  He received allergy treatment himself after his older brother was successfully treated.  This experience and the challenge involved in treating allergic patients is what sparked his interest in the field.

He has greatly enjoyed treating the diversity of patients with allergy related problems over the past 2 decades and looks forward to sharing his art with individuals and families in this region.

 


 

Karen DeLong, MSN, CRNP, FNP-BC, CTTS

Born and raised in Berks County, Pennsylvania; Karen began her nursing career by attending Reading Area Community College and obtaining an Associate Degree in Nursing in 1983. She continued to advance her education by attending Alvernia University and receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, as well as a Master’s Degree in Nursing from Millersville University in 2006. She is board certified by The American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Sleep Medicine is her respiratory speci alty. Education of our patient population on Obstructive Sleep Apnea as well as other sleep disorders is her area of expertise. She works closely with our certified sleep physicians and The Sleep Health Center staff. Our CPAP Clinic is under her direction. Promoting good sleep health is extremely important to her.

Interest in assisting patients with tobacco cessation prompted her to complete a tobacco cessation education program at The University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey. She obtained Certification as a Tobacco Treatment Specialist in 2008.

Working experience includes: working 26 years at Saint Joseph Medical Center as an RN prior to moving into the nurse Practitioner role in 2006.

Karen is an active member of the allied health/medical staff at Saint Joseph Medical Center and The Reading Hospital and Medical Center. She is an active member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the local chapter of Berks County Nurses Practitioners. She provides free Nurse Practitioner services at Lamplight Family Health Care, a clinic for the uninsured of Berks County. Additionally, she is a Reiki Practitioner/Master. Reiki involves promoting healing of the body, mind, and spirit through prayerful healing touch.

 


 

Robin Herb MSN, CRNP ANP-BC

Robin graduated from The Reading Hospital School of Nursing and completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Phoenix. She received her Master’s of Science in Nursing as an Adult Nurse Practitioner from Villanova University. Robin is board certified by The American Nurses Credentialing Center as an Adult Nurse Practitioner.

Robin has extensive clinical experience in Intensive and Critical Care, Cardiology and Internal Medicine. She is a Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor.   She is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Pennsylvania Coalition of Nurse Practitioners and Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society. Her interests include domestic and international mission work, providing for those who have little or no access to basic health care.

Robin specializes in management of patients with COPD. As a patient advocate, she has a passion for education and is committed to ensuring her patients are informed participants in their heath care decisions.

 


 

Susan O'Brien, CCRN, MSN, CRNP, FNP-BC

Susan was born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in New Jersey, moving to Pennsylvania in 1990.  Susan received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Bloomsburg University, Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania in May 1995.


Susan has an extensive background with Intensive and Critical care patients.  Her professional career began in the Intermediate Intensive Care Unit at Lancaster General Hospital as a staff nurse.  In 1998, she began working as a staff nurse in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Reading Hospital, a part of the Reading Health System.  In the intensive care unit, Susan specialized in the care of patients who were receiving care for trauma injuries, open heart, and brain surgery.  In 2006, she received certification as a Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN).  As a staff nurse, Susan worked as a skills validator and mentor to new staff.  She received her Masters of Science Degree in Nursing in May 2015 as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Millersville University.  She is board certified and a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
